Three Black Scholars Appointed to New Posts in Academia

eastonbrooksdonaldwebDonald R. Easton-Brooks, a professor and dean of the School of Education at the University of South Dakota, was appointed to the board of directors of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. He will serve a three-year term. Dr. Easton-Brooks was appointed dean at the University of South Dakota in 2015. Previously, he was dean of the Colleges of Business and Education at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande.

Dr. Easton-Brooks is a 1988 graduate of Greenville College in Illinois, where he majored in sociology. He holds a master’s degree in early childhood special education and a doctorate in education leadership and innovation from the University of Colorado at Denver.

tiphanieyaniqueTiphanie Yanique was named associate professor of English and granted tenure at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She is the author of two novels including Land of Love and Drowning (Riverhead Books, 2014) and the poetry collection Wife (Peepal Tree Press, 2015).

A native of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Professor Yanique is a graduate of Tufts University in Massachusetts. She holds a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the University of Houston.

laurence_ralph_photoLaurence Ralph was hired as an associate professor of anthropology at Princeton University in New Jersey. He will begin teaching at Princeton in the fall of 2017. Currently, he serves as the John L. Loeb Associate Professor of Social Sciences at Harvard University. Dr. Ralph is the author of Renegade Dreams: Living Through Injury in Gangland Chicago (University of Chicago Press, 2014).

Dr. Ralph is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he majored in history, technology, and society. He earned a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Chicago.
