Major Awards for a Pair of Black Scholars

andersonJames A. Anderson, chancellor of Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, has been selected to receive the 2017 Harold Delaney Exemplary Leadership Award from the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education. Chancellor Anderson will be honored at the National Conference of Blacks in Higher Education in Raleigh this coming March.

Dr. Anderson became chancellor of Fayetteville State University in 2008. He is a graduate of Villanova University in Pennsylvania and holds a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

tanureojaideTanure Ojaide, the Frank Porter Graham Professor of Africana Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, has been named the recipient of the Nigerian National Order of Merit in the humanities. Dr. Ojaide is the author of 17 collections of poetry, three short story collections, four novels, and several other books including the memoir Drawing the Map of Heaven: An African Writer in America (Malthouse Press, 2012).

Professor Ojaide is a graduate of the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, where he majored in English. He holds a master’s degree in creative writing and a Ph.D. in English from Syracuse University in New York.
