Confederate Monument Moved From the Edge of the University of Louisville Campus

louisvilleRecently, a monument honoring Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War, was moved from the edge of the campus of the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Kentucky was a slave state but did not succeed from the Union and join the Confederacy.

The plan to remove the monument was announced last April but a legal challenge was mounted to keep the Confederate memorial in place. A compromise was reached in which the memorial was moved to Brandenburg, Kentucky, where it will be part of a historical display. The city of Brandenburg holds a biennial Civil War re-enactment event. The next one is scheduled for July 2018.

The University of Louisville Foundation paid $350,000 of the $400,000 cost to move the monument.
