University of Northern Iowa — Assistant Professor of Communication

The University of Northern Iowa seeks applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Communication Studies starting August 2017. Responsibilities include a 3/3 teaching load (nine credit hours per semester) of classes in Communication Studies with opportunities to teach graduate courses, direct M.A. theses/research projects, and mentor students in co-curricular activities and creative work.

The successful candidate is expected to participate in curriculum development as well as department and university governance; demonstrate effective classroom teaching; pursue individual scholarly/creative activity; and engage in professional service.

Ph.D. in Communication Studies or related field required. ABDs with evidence of degree completion by August 2017 considered. Experience teaching and/or academic training in relational communication and/or intercultural communication, as well as demonstrated ability to teach communication theory and research methods, required. Evidence of teaching excellence at the college/university level, an established or promising research agenda, and excellent written and oral communication skills also required. Preference will be given to applicants with graduate level coursework in Communication Studies and demonstrated collaborative communication.
