Saint Anselm College invites applications and nominations for a strategic thinker and a collaborative leader as its founding Chief Diversity Officer (CDO). The CDO will work with the Saint Anselm community to develop a broad, collaborative shared vision for the role of diversity and inclusion in achieving institutional excellence and will demonstrate a strong track record of building and supporting initiatives that promote diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.
Saint Anselm is a private, Catholic Benedictine College located in Manchester, New Hampshire. With enrollment of approximately 1,900 undergraduate students, Saint Anselm provides all its students with a distinctive liberal arts education in a context of Christian ideals that incorporates opportunities for professional and career preparation.
The College is committed to sustaining an intentionally diverse and inclusive environment that benefits all constituencies and honors the dignity of all people. Saint Anselm aspires to bring together a faculty, staff, and student body that helps enhance the Saint Anselm community with their diverse scholarly interests, ideas, beliefs, experience, talents, and racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. In adherence to the Benedictine values of Hospitality, Justice, Listening and the Respect for Persons, the College strives to create a community where the search for knowledge takes place in an environment that values critical thinking, multicultural exchange, and service to humanity.
The founding Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) will report directly to the President and be supported by a staff member and budget to help seed initiatives. The CDO will provide institution-wide leadership and coordination of a range of diversity and inclusiveness efforts, including: chairing the President’s Steering Committee on Diversity & Inclusiveness; articulating the College’s narrative around diversity and inclusion; student recruitment and retention; faculty and staff recruitment, hiring, and retention; faculty efforts to increase diversity in the curriculum; and the systematic assessment of progress relative to diversity and inclusiveness.
The successful candidate will be a person of proven leadership and unquestioned integrity who operates from a strong moral and ethical compass consistent with the unique educational roots of Saint Anselm College. Qualifications include: seven or more years of professional success that reflects a curiosity and a passion for learning, knowledge of diversity issues and achieving results (preferably in higher education); a transparent and supportive leadership style with strong skills in collaboration and interpersonal communications; the ability to cultivate connections and build bridges among all constituencies; and an articulated commitment to the mission and values of Saint Anselm College. An advanced degree is required, with a doctorate preferred.
