Michael Tidwell to Be the Next President of the University of Texas at Tyler

tidwell_m_10The University of Texas Board of Regents has named Michael V. Tidwell as the sole finalist to become president of the University of Texas at Tyler. Under Texas state law, the board must wait 21 days after the announcement to make the appointment official.

Since 2012, Dr. Tidwell has been serving as dean of the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. Earlier, he was dean of the College of Business at Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Tidwell is a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where he majored in communication and played varsity volleyball. He holds a master’s degree in communication from Washington State University and a Ph.D. in organizational studies from Ball State University.

The University of Texas at Tyler enrolls about 6,300 undergraduate students and nearly, 2,500 graduate students. According to the latest U.S. Department of Education data, African Americans make up 9 percent of the undergraduate student body.
