Indiana University — Tenure-Track Faculty, Choral Conducting

The Jacobs School of Music seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Choral Conducting. The successful candidate will possess demonstrable strengths as a choral scholar and musician, will be able to work effectively with faculty colleagues, and will be able to inspire gifted students in a highly competitive and professionally-oriented educational environment. Both junior and senior applications will be considered. Responsibilities; Teach choral repertoire classes for D.M. and M.M. choral conducting majors and minors; guide doctoral documents in choral music; create and grade D.M. qualifying exams and M.M. comprehensive exams for choral majors; mentor graduate student conducting recitals. Other responsibilities may include teaching related courses such as score reading for conductors; aural skills for graduate choral conductors; choral conducting at undergraduate and/or graduate levels. Responsibilities may also include conducting a chorus of undergraduate music majors in a least one performance each academic year. Participation in department activities and student recruitment, service on doctoral committees and on Jacobs School committees, is expected. D.M.A. or Ph.D. in choral conducting, musicology or a closely-related field, completed by the start date of the appointment (August 1, 2017), is required; commensurate professional experience will be given equal consideration. Applicants with demonstrated experience in teaching graduate students and successful experience as a choral conductor will be given first consideration. Senior applicants: documented accomplishments as a pedagogue or scholar in the field of choral music, with published books, articles and/or scholarly editions.
