Howard University to Offer New Ph.D. Program in Educational Leadership

howard-university-logoHoward University, the historically Black research university in Washington, D.C., has announced the establishment of a new Ph.D. program in educational leadership and policy studies. The new program will prepare students for leadership roles and for policy analyst positions at minority-serving higher education institutions or for faculty and researchers in higher education.

The 72 credit hour program is designed to completed in four years. Students will take 33 credit hours in foundational courses, 18 credit hours in research methodology, and 12 credit hours in electives.

Students who are admitted to the new Ph.D. program will have the opportunity to be selected to work as graduate assistants for several organizations including the United Negro College Fund, The Education Trust, and the American Council of Education.

palmer_100Robert Palmer, an associate professor in the department of educational leadership and policy studies is the interim chair of the department. He joined the university’s faculty in 2015 after teaching at Binghamton University of the State University of New York System. Dr. Palmer is a graduate of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. He earned a master’s degree at West Chester University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Morgan State University in Baltimore.
