A Trio of Black Men in New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

ogbonnaKelechi C. Ogbonna was named associate dean for admissions and student services at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy in Richmond. He joined the faculty at the university in 2012 and has been serving as director of the Geriatric Residency Program.

Dr. Ogbonna earned a pharmacy doctorate at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Health Science in Boston. He is completing work on a master’s degree in health administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.

darron-turnerDarron Turner was appointed the inaugural chief inclusion officer and Title IX coordinator at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. He has served for the past 20 years as associate vice chancellor for student affairs at the university.

Dr. Turner holds a bachelor’s degree and an educational doctorate from Texas Christian University. He holds a master’s degree from Amberton University in Garland, Texas.

whirlJermaine Whirl is the new vice president of economic development and corporate training at Greenville Technical College in South Carolina. He was dean of the School of Business and dean of the School of Art & Design at Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia.

Dr. Whirl is a graduate of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He holds master’s degrees from Charleston South University in South Carolina and Armstrong State University in Georgia. Dr. Whirl earned a doctorate in organizational leadership at Valdosta State University in Georgia.
