The West Chester University of Pennsylvania community invites applications and nominations for the position of President. The largest institution in the Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, West Chester University is a regional, comprehensive institution committed to providing access that offers high-quality education and a variety of educational and cultural resources for its students, alumni, and citizens of southeastern Pennsylvania at an affordable price.
The University is seeking a student-centered president who will serve as a strong, entrepreneurial minded leader, committed to continuing the positive momentum of the institution. The president must be a visionary with both academic and senior administrative success and one that understands facility and strategic planning/budgeting. Additionally, the president must be committed to fundraising and external relations, promote and celebrate diversity and inclusion, and be able to empower others through transparent communication, collaborative management, and shared governance in a unionized environment.
Located on 402 beautiful acres in historic and charming West Chester, 25 miles west of Philadelphia, West Chester University is home to 14,400+ undergraduate and 2,600+ graduate students. The university will sustain this population with the addition of applied doctoral programs, planned undergraduate engineering programs, combined with a national image as evidenced by major magazine rankings and a focused marketing plan. This diverse and welcoming student body studies in one of five Colleges: College of Arts and Humanities, College of Health Sciences, College of the Sciences and Mathematics, College of Business and Public Management, and the College of Education and Social Work. An additional division includes the School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies. They offer 169 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs in the arts and sciences, teacher preparation/certification, advanced study preparation in fields such as medicine and law, and professional programs with a commitment to research in and outside the classroom.
The strategic plan, “Building on Excellence,” is comprised of five themes: Academics, Sustainability, Diversity, Engagement, and Enrichment. Committed to measurable outcomes in each theme, the University has accomplished: the addition of doctoral programs; enhanced distance education programming; increased national program accreditations; the addition of an external campus in Philadelphia collaborating with other State System Universities; enhanced internationalization of the student body, ESL and study abroad experiences; reducing its ecological impact via geo-thermal technology and promoting research and service that foster sustainability; facility improvements with new academic buildings; the creation of a Veteran’s Center; student volunteer service to the community that exceeds 109,984 hours with over 674,108 total hours of service-learning annually; and an outstanding athletic tradition with 24 NCAA Division II teams.
The Presidential Search Committee will accept confidential applications and nominations until the position is filled. Screening of candidates will begin immediately. For best consideration, applications and nominations should be provided by October 21, 2016. An application should include a letter describing relevant experiences and interest in the position; a resume; and the names of five references, with titles, addresses, business and home telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses.
