The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), a doctoral research university, enrolls over 27,000 students from all 50 states and 80 countries. The University offers 192 academic programs, including 94 undergraduate degrees, 64 master’s degrees, and 34 doctoral programs, through 14 schools and colleges. The campus is located in a beautiful residential neighborhood and is a short walk from Lake Michigan.

The chief enrollment officer/director of undergraduate admissions provides vision, administrative leadership, and operational supervision for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, New Student Orientation, and Transfer & Adult Student Orientation, and develops strategies related to enrollment management, student recruitment, admission, retention, and persistence to graduation. The chief enrollment officer partners with numerous UWM offices and external constituents engaged in recruitment efforts; enhances the use of technology in managing prospective and incoming student relationships; collaborates with Academic Affairs to meet target goals and align resources with campus priorities; instills a culture of continuous improvement and emphasizes a positive working environment; and provides seamless admission and transitional support for students, offering an optimal application and enrollment experience which will set the stage for retention and academic success. The position supervises a team of 40 professional staff and 55 student employees, and manages an operating budget of $1.8 million.

This position is responsible for the implementation of the UWM Strategic Enrollment Plan, and the chief enrollment officer engages the campus community in reflective and data-orientated discussions about UWM’s challenges and opportunities; makes proposals to achieve enrollment goals; and builds collaborative partnerships to support student success initiatives. Reporting to the senior student affairs officer, the chief enrollment officer is a member of the Division of Student Affairs leadership team, and co-chairs the chancellor’s Enrollment Management Action Team.

Minimum requirements include a master’s degree and progressive management experience in admissions or enrollment management—including leadership and supervision of professional staff.

Among a broad array of desired characteristics, candidates should also demonstrate an understanding of strategic enrollment management and sound admissions practices; knowledge of recruitment strategies and experience with predictive modeling and data analysis; excellent oral and written communication skills, including effective public speaking and presentation skills; and experience with integrated student information systems, CRM systems, and innovative technologies for recruitment and admissions.
