Filed in Administrative on September 26, 2016
The University of New England (UNE) seeks a new president to lead this dynamic, innovative, successful private university into the future.
UNE has experienced a period of unprecedented success and dramatic expansion. Today, UNE is a diverse institution with campuses in Portland and Biddeford, Maine and Tangier, Morocco and includes six colleges: Arts and Sciences, Osteopathic Medicine (the only osteopathic medical school in New England and the only medical school in Maine), Pharmacy, Health Professions, Graduate and Professional Studies, and the only College of Dental Medicine in northern New England. Targeted investments in the University’s research capacity, facilities and technological infrastructure have created truly world-class learning environments, fueled enrollment growth to 12,245 students, composed of 4,444 (36%) on campus students and 7,801 (64%) online learners, and broadened UNE’s national and international recognition. UNE has become a national leader in interdisciplinary/interprofessional health education and online education and prides itself in rooting its programming in the liberal arts. Exciting new programs, including a Competency Based Education (CBE) program, and the University’s Innovation Hub keep the UNE growing in new directions.
The University of New England provides students with a highly integrated learning experience that promotes excellence through interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in education, research, and service. UNE also has a more secure financial profile today than at any previous time. The University’s prestige is exemplified by its inclusion in the Princeton Review’s 2016 edition of The Best 380 Colleges and by Brookings Institution ranking UNE first in Maine in improving students’ career earnings. UNE’s most recent new facilities include an innovative Marine Science Center, new residence halls, a revolutionary study abroad campus focused on the health sciences in Tangier, Morocco, and state of the art buildings for its new Colleges of Pharmacy and Dental Medicine which solidified its stature as the leading supplier of health care professionals for the state of Maine. The face of UNE continues to grow both locally and internationally and reflects the student centered orientation and forward thinking perspective of the faculty, community and administration.
