The University of Missouri-St. Louis invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. We seek an innovative and effective academic leader to guide the university as it fulfills its mission as a metropolitan public research university.

The University of Missouri-St. Louis, the largest public university in the St. Louis area, has 12,000 students, including 3,070 graduate and 170 professional students. The University offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees through the Colleges of Arts and Sciences (including the School of Fine and Performing Arts), Business Administration, Education, Nursing, Optometry, School of Social Work, Graduate School, and the UMSL/Washington University Joint Engineering Program. Selected students also participate in the Pierre Laclede Honors College.

The Provost is the institution’s chief academic officer and reports directly to the Chancellor. The Provost directs all aspects of the University’s teaching and research missions and assists the Chancellor in developing and implementing the strategic plan for the campus. Direct reports to the Provost include: the academic deans, dean of libraries, and vice/associate provosts for research, teaching & learning, student affairs, international studies, and planning & assessment.

Candidates must possess an earned doctorate or equivalent and qualifications for appointment as a tenured full professor in an academic unit on campus. Candidates must have a strong commitment to shared governance, concern for the quality of the overall student experience, and exceptional leadership skills. Candidates must also have a vision for addressing the current challenges facing higher education, significant academic administrative experience, and a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity. Preferred qualifications include a minimum of three years administrative experience at the level of dean or above, experience consistent with managing a complex academic organization, and the ability to work effectively with colleagues inside and outside the university. Other desirable credentials include fiscal management experience and familiarity with funded research.
