New Faculty Assignments for Five Black Scholars at Major Universities

Williams-SmithKecia Williams Smith was hired as an assistant professor in the department of accounting and information systems at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. She is a former senior executive for the Deloitte accounting firm.

Dr. Smith is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. She earned a Ph.D. in 2016 at Texas A&M University.

darlene-clark-hine_lgDarlene Clark Hine was named the Visiting Hannah Distinguished Professor for the 2016-17 academic year at Michigan State University. From 2004 to 2016, Dr. Hine served on the faculty at Northwestern University. Earlier, she held an endowed chair at Michigan State University, where she established the Ph.D. program in comparative Black history.

Dr. Hine is the co-author of the textbook African Americans: A Concise History (Pearson), which is now in its sixth edition. Professor Hine is a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Kent State University in Ohio.

Eric Dogini has accepted a faculty position in the department of mass communications at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. He will teach courses in television production, copyediting and news editing. Dr. Dogini spent the last 12 years on the faculty at Clark Atlanta University.

A native of Nigeria, Dr. Dogini is a graduate of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. He holds a master’s degree from Texas Southern University and a doctorate from Capella University.

WhiteDDonald White, director of the management and marketing program in the College of Business at Grambling State University in Louisiana, has been given the added duties as interim dean of the College of Business.

Dr. White has taught at Grambling since 2012. Earlier he was director of organizational management at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. Dr. White earned a doctorate in business administration from Louisiana Tech University.

lamidiEsther Lamidi was named an assistant professor of sociology in the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. She was an instructor at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Dr. Lamidi is a graduate of the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. She holds a master’s degree from Western Illinois University and a Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University.
