Illinois State University — Assistant Professor in Technical Communication

The Department of English at Illinois State University invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in Technical Communication with research and teaching expertise in the following areas: digital rhetorics; web application development and design; web publishing; information architecture. The selected candidate will join an internationally recognized English Studies faculty with a programmatic commitment to social justice and cultural studies approaches to technical communication; participate in delivering well-established undergraduate and graduate concentrations in technical and professional communication and rhetoric and composition; and help to further develop our focus in international/intercultural technical communication as part of a department commitment to global studies. 2/3 teaching load; competitive salary. State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.

Candidates are expected to have:

  • An earned doctorate in Technical Communication or closely related field
  • Evidence of promising scholarship in Technical Communication
  • A record of successful college teaching in Technical Communication or closely related field.

We additionally welcome candidates with a strong background in rhetoric and with interest and/or experience in any of the following: public rhetorics; environmental rhetorics; usability studies; legal writing; technical editing; teaching online or hybrid technical communication courses.
