The Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor of Special Education.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning, the Assistant Professor of Special Education position involves collaborating with faculty across the College of Education; teaching courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels; supervising and assisting with field experiences; serving as a member of doctoral and educational specialist committees and chairing doctoral dissertations and specialist theses; and performing service to the department, college, university, and professional communities. Teaching and supervising candidates in the B.S.Ed., M.A.T., M.Ed., and Ed. S. special education programs is the primary focus of the position. Additional responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda involving regular publications, professional presentations, and external grant proposals; modeling effective teaching practices; and using instructional technology in face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments. The position is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- Earned doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field by August 1, 2017
- Minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in special education coursework
- Minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience in grades P-12
- A focused program of research and scholarship related to special education
- Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution
- Experience working with a diverse faculty and student body
- Demonstrated effectiveness in using technology in instruction
- Experience teaching online courses
- Experience working with individuals with autism and/or instructing teacher candidates on implementing evidence-based practices in teaching students with autism
- Experience in the supervision of student teachers and/or practicum students
- Experience with school-university partnerships, Professional Learning Communities, and/or Professional Development Schools
- Involvement in professional educational organizations at the local, state, or national levels
- Knowledge of and experience with edTPA
