Four African Americans Appointed to New Higher Education Posts

Eric Zamora PhotographyDanita Nias is the new vice president for institutional advancement at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. She will also serve as the CEO of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation. She has served in fundraising posts at the University of Florida and the University of Maryland.

Nias is a graduate of the University of Maryland, where she concentrated on personnel and labor relations. She holds a master’s degree in international relations from Syracuse University.

WENDY-WILSONWendy Wilson was named executive director of Cordele Center of Darton State College in Georgia. The center in Crisp County, offers day and evening classes leading to associate’s degrees. She has been serving as special assistant to the president for strategic communications and university relations at Albany State University in Georgia. Albany State University is merging with Darton State College.

A native of Detroit, Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Bluefield College in Virginia and a master’s degree in human resource management from Central Michigan University. She is pursuing a doctorate in higher education at Columbus State University in Georgia.

sellerslamontwebLamont Sellers was promoted to associate vice president for diversity at the University of South Dakota. For the past two years, Sellers has been serving as director of the university’s Center for Diversity and Community.

Sellers is a graduate of Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he majored in mathematics education. He holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from the University of Denver.

thurman-d-hollinsThurman D. Hollins was appointed director of bands at North Carolina Central University in Durham. He has served as interim director of bands at the university since 2014. Previously, he was the band director at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Thurmond is a graduate of Norfolk State University in Virginia, where he majored in music education. He holds a master’s degree from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
