Five Black Faculty Members Taking on New Assignments

wemyEdouard Wemy is a new assistant professor of economics at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was serving as a visiting professor at Emory University in Atlanta.

Dr. Wemy is a graduate of Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, where he majored in economics and mathematics. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Emory University.

GigiBastienGilberte Bastien, a clinical psychologist and associate project director at the Satcher Health Leadership Institute of the Morehouse School of Medicine, has been awarded a Fogarty Global Health Fellowship. She will spend 11 months in Liberia researching the mental health consequences of the 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

Dr. Bastien is a graduate of Xavier University in New Orleans where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Mississippi.

Dean_Carr_resized Robert Z. Carr Jr., dean of the School of Education and Psychology at Alcorn State University in Mississippi, was given the added duties of executive director of the Vicksburg Expansion Center at the university.

Dr. Carr is a graduate of Tougaloo College in Mississippi. He holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Oklahoma State University.

HubbardD_f16Danny Hubbard, a professor of chemistry at Grambling State University in Louisiana, was appointed interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He has been serving as associate dean of the college.

Ellen D. Smiley, interim provost at Grambling stated that “Dr. Hubbard has great rapport with the students and is an excellent professor and researcher. His focus on new programs and concentrations will increase the university’s ability to attract majors in the STEM areas and liberal arts.”

motenCrystal Moten is a new member of the history department faculty at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was an assistant professor of history at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. She is the author of the forthcoming book, This Woman’s Work: Black Women’s Economic Activism in Postwar Milwaukee.

Dr. Moten is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin.
