Elgin Community College (ECC) is a comprehensive, fully accredited community college located in Elgin, Illinois, one of its most rapidly growing cities. Our district encompasses 360 square miles, serving 400,000 people, 11,000 businesses with four public school districts and 15 high schools. ECC was selected as one of five Illinois community colleges to participate in the national Achieving the Dream (AtD) initiative, is a long-term national initiative that collaborates with community colleges to help more students earn degrees, complete certificates, or transfer to four-year institutions to continue their studies. The park-like setting of our 145 acre Main Campus offers instruction spanning nine major buildings with beautiful views. ECC also offers classes throughout the northwest suburbs of Chicago with more than 100 off-campus locations.

This is a part time position, up to 25 hours per week.


Facilitate co-curricular programs, multicultural competence, student leadership opportunities, and an overall campus climate that fosters student development. Develop and facilitate events, workshops and seminars that complement classroom instruction and help students build leadership and life skills (e.g., diversity, budget management, conflict resolution, etc.).

Essential Responsibilities:

Serve as a key liaison/contact to connect target populations of students:

a. Coordinate welcoming events/meet and greet sessions for new and continuing students
b. Assist with coordination and implementation of Student Success Passport program to encourage use of services (e.g., TRIO, advising, tutoring, etc.)
i. Develop passport content and messaging
ii. Distribute publicity on campus to encourage participation
iii. Identify a marketing plan for promotion of passport
c. Serve as a secondary case manager for Spartan Alert
d. Participate in campus diversity and heritage month planning committees

Implement a peer mentoring program applicable to Student Life Department and related campus initiatives:

a. Host peer mentor trainings and retreats that can serve as cross-functional opportunities with academic courses, such as first-year experience courses and those with direct learning outcomes
b. Develop a peer leader program manual and related program resources available during the mentoring time period
c. Promote peer mentoring program through cross-functional campus teams or committees
d. Research best practices in services for target populations to encourage program involvement

Serve as primary advisor for the Black Student Achievers organization:

a. Provide guidance and leadership to BSA members through helping to develop leadership skills and responsibilities to execute various tasks. Topics include extensive preparation about the topic in various forms (books, articles, etc.) and creating
multimedia presentations to engage student attention:
b. Facilitate retreats and other workshop to develop academic year programs and student meetings
c. Developing partnerships with other clubs/organizations or college departments to execute various activities that address students’ needs.
d. Participate in campus diversity and heritage month planning committees

Advise and inform Student Success Infrastructure (SSI) leaders on best practices to support target populations:

a. Provide key updates and reports on SSI initiatives that support target populations
i. Assist in formalizing evaluation criteria and assessment techniques
ii. Assist in the articulation of results through data
b. Clarify the resource needs, opportunities, and challenges that impact target populations

Participate in Student Life programs, events, and initiatives in order to achieve department goals and objectives
