The College of Idaho — Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty

The College of Idaho, a private liberal arts college founded in 1891 and located in Caldwell, Idaho, invites nominations and applications for its next Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) and Dean of the Faculty. As a member of the senior staff, the VPAA will report directly to President Charlotte Borst. The College desires an experienced and accomplished academic leader who is an action-oriented visionary, with strong management, interpersonal, and communication skills.

The College of Idaho (www.collegeofidaho.edu) is home to 1050 undergraduate students and is the state’s oldest four-year institution of higher learning. Students at the College learn through its distinctive PEAK (Professional, Ethical, Articulate, and Knowledgeable) curriculum, which challenges them to attain competencies in the four knowledge peaks of the social sciences and history; the humanities and fine arts; the natural sciences and mathematics; and professional foundations. Consistently recognized as one of the best Liberal Arts Colleges in the Northwest, the College’s graduates include seven Rhodes Scholars, 14 Marshall, Truman and Goldwater Scholars, and three state governors. The College is also home to four Carnegie Foundation Idaho Professors of the Year.

The College of Idaho is situated in Caldwell, a city of more than 50,000 located in Idaho’s vibrant Snake River wine country. The College is 30 minutes from the state capital of Boise, a metropolitan city featuring a rich cultural and political life, including numerous arts and entertainment venues, shops, museums, restaurants, and sporting events. Its location is within easy access to world-class whitewater rafting, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, camping, and miles of trails for hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing.

The VPAA provides overall leadership and coordination for 17 academic departments and programs, and oversees the Associate Dean of the Faculty, Director of Institutional Research, Registrar, Director of Foundations and Corporate Relations, Director of the PEAK Center, and an administrative assistant. As VPAA, the successful candidate will work closely with the president and fellow senior staff to complete the College’s Strategic Plan. S/he must have an earned terminal degree, and be tenurable with a progressive record of teaching, scholarship, and service. In addition, the candidate must have significant higher education administrative experience, and a demonstrated commitment to the Liberal Arts.
