Bridgewater State University — Assistant Professor, Prosecutorial, Judicial Discretion and Sentencing
Filed in Faculty on September 21, 2016
Bridgewater State University’s Department of Criminal Justice invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position to begin Fall 2017. A large, growing, dynamic department with a strong social justice orientation in both theory and practice seeks faculty committed to teaching, mentoring, and research. We seek a candidate with a demonstrable, significant commitment to teaching who is an active and productive scholar.
Bridgewater State University has a 4-4 teaching responsibility (most often implemented with a three-course preparation) supported with significant professional development opportunities and guidance. The successful candidate will be required to conduct various service, research and teaching initiatives.
This position seeks an exceptional candidate in the specializations of law, prosecutorial and judicial discretion or sentencing reform. Whether it is policy focused on federal or state sentencing reform, the effects of mandatory minimums, prosecutorial decision-making, the ever-changing role of judges, therapeutic jurisprudence, or the impact of public counsel on defendants, there is a need for scholarship on the changing nature, purpose of law and the courts in American society.
Prefer a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, but will consider candidates with a Ph.D. in Criminology, Sociology, Public Policy, Political Science, Social Work, Psychology or other closely related fields.
A law degree, alone, does not meet the requirement for the appropriate terminal degree for this position.
Doctoral students who are ABD and who are nearing completion of the dissertation will also be considered.
Applicants should be strongly committed to excellence in teaching, social justice, mentoring, and to working in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity. They should also have an ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, the ability to work collaboratively, evidence of scholarly activity, and a commitment to public higher education.
