Bridgewater State University is a four-year comprehensive university in southeastern Massachusetts, serving over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students via opportunities for close student/faculty interaction and a commitment to social justice. BSU offers the only Anthropology Major at any of the Massachusetts State Universities. The Anthropology Department provides a strong liberal arts curriculum aimed at developing well-rounded, informed citizens with strong critical thinking abilities. Department programs also impart skills to students, preparing them for a wide range of professions.
Anthropology Department faculty members engage in research and community service; the department encourages student-faculty collaborative research. We offer three separate concentrations in the major: General Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology and Public Archaeology. We have a summer archaeology field school, an international interdisciplinary field school in Trinidad and offer study abroad travel opportunities.
The successful candidate will have the ability to teach lower and upper division courses in Anthropology, including Peoples and Cultures of the Middle East as well as a new 100-level Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology course. The successful candidate should be able to teach some currently offered lower and upper division courses and add offerings in the Anthropology of the Middle East and other areas of expertise, including writing- and/or speaking-intensive courses as well as Introductory and Intermediary Arabic. The candidate is also expected to maintain an active research agenda and engage in University service.
PhD in Anthropology with specializations in linguistics and the Middle East.
Applicants should be strongly committed to excellence in teaching, advising, and working in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity.
They should also have an ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, the ability to work collaboratively, evidence of on-going scholarly activity, and interest in engaging students in faculty-student research as well as a commitment to public higher education.
