Appalachian State University — Assistant Director of University Housing for Residence Life

University Housing has an Assistant Director of University Housing for Residence Life position opening for Spring 2017. This is a critical position for the entire department, as the Assistant Director has direct supervision over one side of campus. The specific position would oversee East Campus which has approximately 3,000 students in ten residence halls. This position involves direct supervision of four Master’s level Coordinators and one Administrative Assistant; they indirectly oversee seven Graduate Assistants, 70 Resident Assistants, and two Faculty-in-Residence. The Assistant Director reports to the Senior Associate Director of University Housing.

Minimum qualifications:
Completion of a master’s degree and 5 years post master’s professional student affairs work experience. Experience supervising graduate and undergraduate staff, advising student groups, training staff, working with residential learning communities, programming, and presenting are required. Demonstrated experience regarding commitment to inclusion and social justice is a must. Case management and serving on-call/crisis response experience is essential. The ability to effectively solve problems is imperative. Also expected is the ability to successfully communicate, collaborate, motivate, and educate students and staff.

Preferred qualifications:
Master’s degree in student affairs or related field. Experience supervising full-time staff, budgeting, and teaching is ideal. Demonstrated professional involvement is preferred. Familiarity with a Residential Curriculum, Faculty-in-Residence program, and Maxient Student Conduct Software is also desired.

Compensation Package:

  • Salary range is $48,000 to 50,000.
  • The Assistant Director is a live-off position.
  • The Assistant Director receives departmental support for professional involvement and travel.
  • The Assistant Director position is a full-time administrative EHRA position.
