Reporting to the Director of University Housing, the Director of Dining and Culinary Services/Assistant Director of Housing (Director) is a member of the senior leadership team for the Division of University Housing (Division) as well as a highly visible partner on the UW-Madison campus. The Director is responsible for the planning and direction of all operational, fiscal, and personnel aspects of University Housing Dining and Culinary Services, and is expected to provide the vision and leadership that ensures that University Housing is offering an exceptional culinary, customer service, and overall dining experience. The Division currently houses over 7,500 residents within 19 residence halls and 3,000 residents in three apartment neighborhoods. The Division has an operating budget of over $90 million and consists of over 420 full-time employees and 2,000 student employees. In addition, the Division’s summer conference program, with annual revenue of more than $4 million, hosts approximately 17,000 guests attending over 120 different programs. Dining and Culinary Services employs approximately 140 FTE and 1,300 student employees with an annual budget of $28 million.
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) and ten years of progressively responsible managerial/administrative experience with at least five years of supervisory experience that demonstrates the ability to manage high-volume, multi-unit marketplace dining operations and catering units; extensive knowledge of current industry standards, customer trends, and food purchasing and distribution systems; knowledge of food service software for menu, inventory management, and point-of-sale systems as used for program evaluation; experience with high-volume food production and sales, food quality assurance programs, and fiscal and personnel management; demonstrated experience as a skilled administrator; ability to be creative with food and service, including menu management and catering; and knowledge and skill in food presentation and merchandising.
