The New Director of the School of Music at the University of Maryland

gearyJason Geary has been named director of the School of Music at the University of Maryland-College Park. He has been serving as an associate professor and associate dean for graduate studies, equity, and inclusion for the School of Music, Theatre & Dance at the University of Michigan. Dr. Geary served on the faculty at the University of Michigan for 12 years.

geary bookIn accepting the post, Dr. Geary stated that “the School of Music at the University of Maryland has an excellent reputation both nationally and internationally, and I am eager to help build upon the many successes of this already dynamic and distinguished institution.”

Dr. Geary is the author of The Politics of Appropriation: German Romantic Music and the Ancient Greek Legacy (Oxford University Press, 2014). He holds a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, a master’s degree from the University of Michigan, and a doctorate in musicology from Yale University.
