Description of Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate courses in general physics (experimental and theoretical) and specialty courses in area of expertise. Must be committed to excellence in student learning and be able to promote students’ ability to succeed in a multicultural and global community. Responsibilities also include a commitment to research and university service.

In addition, this position will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship, commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Required Qualifications: PhD in Physics, or related area, by time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications: Post-doctoral and/or previous teaching experience. An experimentalist who can engage undergraduates in hands on research is preferred.

Description of Department: The Department of Physics is a vibrant department that supports degrees in Physics, Applied Physics and Physics Education. The department has well equipped teaching facilities, including state of the art upper division laboratory teaching equipment in astronomy and astrophysics, quantum mechanics, optics, nano-physics, nuclear physics and condensed matter physics. The department has a RF room, a complete array of equipment for the growth, property investigation and device fabrication based on nanomaterials, an Atomic Force Microscope, a Newport solar simulator, a SQUID, thin film fabrication facilities, ultrahigh vacuum chamber, electric transport measurement devices, an automated astronomical observatory including a 16” Meade, a LHIres spectrograph, two SBIG CCDs and several smaller telescopes. The department maintains strong undergraduate research programs in Astrophysics, Nanophysics, Condensed Matter Physics, Nuclear Physics and History of Science. We regularly mentor students undertaking on/off campus research/internship experiences as well as at leading research institutions overseas.
