Haverford College — Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Sociology

Haverford College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Sociology at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2017.  The College seeks to hire a sociologist who does theoretically informed research in any area of the discipline.  The successful candidate will teach at all levels of the curriculum to a diverse undergraduate student body, and offer courses in their areas of expertise that increase the breadth of offerings in the Department and contribute to interdisciplinary programs at the College.   The candidate also will be expected to contribute to the introductory two-semester “Foundations in Social Theory” seminar, which focuses on the writings of classical social theorists as exemplars of how to do sociology; each section of the course is designed individually.

Haverford College is committed to building a culturally diverse faculty and strongly encourages applications from female and minority candidates.  A PhD at the time of the appointment is required.  Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, a writing sample, at least two sample syllabi, and arrange to have three confidential letters of recommendation submitted via Interfolio (https://apply.interfolio.com/37016).  Questions about the application process should be directed to Georgia Davidis Malone, Faculty Dossier Coordinator, at gdavidisma@haverford.edu.  For technical questions, please contact Interfolio directly at 877-997-8807 or help@interfolio.com.  For full consideration, all application materials must be received by October 1, 2016.

Haverford College is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer that does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital status, disability or veteran status.  Haverford has a longstanding commitment to diversity rooted in values of inclusion and social justice, a commitment reflected in the curriculum, classrooms, and communal composition of the College.  Haverford welcomes applications from candidates who share these values and who will foster their contribution to the College’s mission.
