Five African Americans Appointed to New Administrative Posts in Higher Education

Bakari-SentwaliSentwali Bakari was appointed vice chancellor for student success at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, effective October 3. Since 2003, he has served as dean of students at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Dr. Bakari holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He earned a Ph.D. at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

nutter-michaelMichael A. Nutter, the former mayor of Philadelphia, was named executive fellow of the University of Chicago Urban Labs. Urban Labs cooperates with community and municipal organizations to tackle issues of crime,  education, energy and the environment, health, and poverty.

Nutter is a graduate of The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Sherie Cornish Gordon was named director of athletics at Albany State University in Georgia. She has been serving as the senior associate commissioner for external business administration for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Gordon holds a bachelor’s degree from Morgan State University in Baltimore and a master’s degree in sports management from Temple University in Philadelphia.

SuttonWWill Sutton is the new director of communications at Grambling State University in Louisiana. He has been serving as visiting professor in business journalism at the university. He is the former deputy managing editor of the News & Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Sutton is a graduate of Hampton University in Virginia, where he also served on the faculty.

Wilson-Darryl-cropDarryl C. Wilson was appointed associate dean for faculty and strategic initiatives at the Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida.He previously served on the faculty at what is now the Michigan State University College of Law.

Professor Wilson is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and earned a juris doctorate at the University of Florida.
