A Trio of African Americans Appointed to Positions as Deans

b ryant-friedAmanda Bryant-Friedrich was named dean of the College of Graduate Studies at the University of Toledo in Ohio. She was the director of the Shimadzu Laboratory for Pharmaceutical Research Excellence at the university. Before joining the faculty at the University of Toledo, Dr. Bryant-Friedrich was a member of the chemistry department faculty at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.

Dr. Bryant-Friedrich is a graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham, where she majored in chemistry. She holds a master’s degree from Duke University in Durham, and a Ph.D. from Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio.

easleyCheryl Easley is the new dean of the College of Health Sciences at Alabama State University in Montgomery. Dr. Easley is the former dean of the College of Health and Social Welfare at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. She has served as president of American Public Health Association.

Dr. Easley is a graduate of Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland. She holds a Ph.D. in nursing from New York University.

andersonJames D. Anderson was appointed interim dean of the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. He is the Edward William and Jane Marr Professor of Education at the university and chair of the department of education policy, organization, and leadership. Professor Anderson is the author of The Education of Blacks in the South, 1860-1935 (University of North Carolina Press, 1988).

Dr. Anderson is a graduate of Stillman College in Alabama. He holds a master degree and a Ph.D. in the history of education from the University of Illinois.

Quenon Endowed Chair, and vice provost for graduate education at Missouri University of Science and Technology.
