A New African American Dean at River Parishes Community College

wt tillmanWalter T. Tillman Jr. was named dean of student services and enrollment management at River Parishes Community College in Gonzales, Louisiana. The college enrolls nearly 2,000 undergraduate students. African Americans make up 35 percent of the student body.

Dr. Tillman has held administrative posts at the Southern University System, the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, and Meharry Medical College in Nashville. Earlier, he served on the staffs of the mayors of New Orleans and Jackson, Mississippi.

A native of Mississippi, Dr. Tillman is a graduate of Dillard University in New Orleans. He holds a master’s degree in education from the University of New Orleans and a doctorate in education and leadership from Louisiana State University.
