University of Maryland Eastern Shore Reorganizes a Major Academic Unit

umes-thumbThe University of Maryland Eastern Shore has announced an academic realignment. The School of Arts and Professions came into being in 1996 and included the departments of education, English and modern languages, fine arts, mathematics and computer science, physical education, physical therapy, and social sciences.

The department of physical therapy was later moved to the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. Now the School of Arts and Professions will be called the School of Education, Social Sciences and the Arts. It will consist of five departments: criminal justice, English and modern languages, education, fine arts, and social sciences.

DavisRay J. Davis, who served as dean of the School of Arts and Professions since 2012 is the dean of the newly established School of Education, Social Sciences and the Arts. Earlier in his career, Dr. Davis taught technology education at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro for 23 years. He holds a master’s degree and an educational doctorate from Ohio State University.
