New Assignments for Four Black Faculty Members

Sandra_BarnesSandra Barnes, a professor of human and organizational development at Peabody College of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, was named assistant vice chancellor for equity, diversity, and inclusion at the university. Professor Barnes joined the faculty at Vanderbilt in 2008 after teaching at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Dr. Barnes is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville. She holds a master’s degree in operations research from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in the sociology of religion from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, and a Ph.D. from Georgia State University.

dancyT. Elon Dancy II has been promoted to the rank of professor in adult and higher education at the University of Oklahoma. He holds affiliate faculty appointments in African and African American Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies.

Dr. Dancy received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He holds a master of health administration degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a Ph.D. in higher education administration with distinction from Louisiana State University.

Alonzo Boyd webLorenzo M. Boyd was appointed professor and chair of the department of criminal justice at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He was a professor and director of the master’s degree program in criminology and justice studies at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Professor Boyd is the president of the Academy of Criminal Justice Science.

Dr. Boyd holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Massachusetts. He earned a Ph.D. in sociology at Northeastern University in Boston.

horace_campbell1Horace Campbell, professor of African American studies at Syracuse University in New York, has accepted a one-year appointment to hold the Kwame Nkrumah Chair at the Ghana Institute of African Studies.

Dr. Campbell is the author of six books including Global NATO and the Catastrophic Failure in Libya: Lessons for Africa in the Forging of African Unity (Monthly Review Press, 2013). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Sussex in England.
