Mississippi Valley State University to Offer a New Concentration in Sound Recording Technology

MVSU-logoHistorically Black Mississippi Valley State University has announced that the department of fine arts will offer a new concentration for students majoring in music. Beginning this fall students will be able to pursue a bachelor’s degree in music with a concentration in sound recording technology.

The new concentration aims to prepare students for careers as recording technicians, mixing engineers, live sound recorders, recording studio entrepreneurs, and other entertainment industry occupations.

mvsu-sanders-smAlphonso Sanders, chair of the department of fine arts at Mississippi Valley State University, said that “it will be a music degree, but instead of students emphasizing on a particular instrument, they will be emphasizing on the fundamental principles of audio and audio mixing.”

Professor Sanders added that “music and many other things in modern society are being driven by technology. This program will allow Mississippi Valley State University to give students the opportunity to choose between a traditional route of music and a more technological route.”
