Last week, JBHE reported that Alabama State University in Montgomery was removed from accreditation warning status by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, the regional accrediting agency for higher education. The university also received more good news. The accrediting agency has approved two new degree programs at Alabama State. The university will now offer a bachelor’s degree program in biomedical engineering, a STEM program that will be attractive to a diverse group of students. The university also will now offer a master of social work degree program.
Speaking at a celebration of the university’s new lease on life, Gwendolyn E. Boyd, president of Alabama State said “Ain’t no stopping us now. We are on the move. We are getting ready to do greater things. Tell the whole world that there is no stopping Alabama State University. Opportunity is here, and we are going to grab it and go forward. We have been vindicated, we have been redeemed, we have been released, we have been set free.”
