Two African American Scholars Have Announced Their Retirements

WandaSmithWanda J. Smith was appointed associate professor of management emerita in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. A member of the university community since 1997, Smith has served as the director of the Pamplin College of Business Business Leadership Center.

Professor Smith received her bachelor’s degree from Georgetown College in Kentucky, a master’s degree from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

murfrJoshua Murfree Jr. has resigned as director of intercollegiate athletics at Fort Valley State University in Georgia. He has served in this position since 2013. Previously, he was the superintendent of the Dougherty County School System in Albany, Georgia, and earlier was director of athletics for Albany State University.

Dr. Murfree Jr. is a graduate of Albany State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He holds a master’s degree from Valdosta State University in Georgia and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Howard University in Washington.
