In Memoriam: Herman Jones Jr., 1962-2016

Jones__HermanHerman Jones Jr., the director of bands and professor of woodwinds at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina, died on May 27. He was 53 years old.

Professor Jones served in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of major.

Professor Jones was a native of River Rouge, Michigan. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Alabama State University in Montgomery and a master’s degree in jazz studies from Georgia State University in Atlanta.
