New Data on Hate Crimes on College and University Campuses

SchoolSafetyThe National Center for Educational Statistics and the Bureau of Justice Statistics recently released the report, Indicators of School Crime and Safety: 2015, that offers data on hate crime incidents on the campuses of the nation’s colleges and universities.

In 2013, there were 781 hate crimes on college and university campuses that were reported to police and other law enforcement agencies. Vandalism was the most common offense followed by racial or ethnic intimidation and simple assault.

Race was the motivation in 41 percent of hate crime vandalism incidents, 37 percent of the intimidation hate crimes, and 38 percent of the hate crime assaults.
