New Assignments for Three African American Faculty Members

lamontaflowersLamont A. Flowers, distinguished professor of educational leadership at Clemson University in South Carolina has been appointed to serve on the State Commission for Minority Affairs in South Carolina. Dr. Flowers also serves as the executive director of Clemson University’s Charles H. Houston Center for the Study of the Black Experience in Education.

Dr. Flowers received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He received a master’s degree in social studies education and a doctoral degree in higher education from the University of Iowa. Additionally, he received a master’s degree in industrial statistics from the University of South Carolina.

151209_bennett005Gary Bennett Jr., the Bishop McDermott Family Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, Global Health, and Medicine at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, has been named president-elect of the Society of Behavioral Medicine. The society has 2,200 members who are researchers, clinicians, and educators. Dr. Bennett will serve as president-elect for one year and then become president of the society in 2017. Dr. Bennett’s research focuses on using digital technologies to improve health among medically underserved populations. He is also the director of Duke Obesity Prevention Program.

Dr. Bennett is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in psychology from Duke University.

mgreenwoodMonique Greenwood is the inaugural holder of the John H. Johnson Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship at Howard University in Washington, D.C. She is the former editor of Essence magazine. Greenwood is the founder of Akwaaba Bed and Breakfast Inns.

Greenwood is a magna cum laude graduate of Howard University.
