Morehouse School of Medicine Awards a Record Number of Degrees

MSM2The Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta was founded in 1975 and admitted its first students in 1978. In 1985 the educational institution was accredited to award medical doctorates.

This spring, the Morehouse School of Medicine awarded 118 degrees, the largest number in its history. Among the degrees conferred at spring commencement were 57 medical doctorates and 10 Ph.D.s in biomedical sciences.

montgomery_riceIn a commencement address, Valerie Montgomery Rice, president and dean of the Morehouse School of Medicine, said, “Discovery of knowledge, high-quality patient care and community are but a few of the gifts professional schools such as Morehouse School of Medicine give to the larger society. Our grandest gifts to the world, however, are the students we educate — you, the Class of 2016.”

Nearly 97 percent of those receiving medical doctorates were matched to a residency program and 86 percent were matched to their first-choice medical specialty.
