New Student Center Planned on the Campus of North Carolina Central University

nccu_logoThe board of governors of the University of North Carolina has approved the construction of a new 100,230-square-foot student center for North Carolina Central University in Durham. The existing student center was constructed 50 years ago and is the oldest in the university system. Construction of the $36.1 million project on what is now a parking lot is expected to being in 2017.

The new facility will include a 1,750-seat auditorium and a 1,000 seat banquet hall. The student center also will house offices for student organizations and provide space for student activities. A lounge will be constructed for commuter students.

Saunders-WhiteDebra Saunders-White, chancellor of North Carolina Central University said that the new center will “provide our 21st century scholars with a first-class facility, improve the overall campus environment, and contribute to overall student success. This new student center will meet the needs of our campus as continue to steadily grow our enrollment year over year, now serving more than 8,000 students.”
