New Administrative Duties for Four African Americans in Higher Education

KellyKristene Kelly was appointed director of athletics at Keene State College in New Hampshire. For the past seven years, she has been associate director of athletics at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Earlier, Dr. Kelly was sports information director at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte.

Dr. Kelly is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, where she majored in physical education and communication arts. She holds a master’s degree in human performance and sports studies from the University of Tennessee and an educational doctorate from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama.

Hales, Michael Lt Col 200Michael A. Hales is the new director of the aviation program at Delaware State University in Dover. He oversees a program with about 100 students and has a fleet of 11 airplanes. Hales is a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Army and is a certified commercial pilot.

Hales is a graduate of Excelsior College in Albany, New York. He holds a master’s degree in procurement and acquisition management from Webster University in Missouri.

Jim_Hill_bJames Hill was named interim senior student affairs officer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, effective in July. He is associate vice chancellor in the Office of Student Life at the university. From 1996 to 2005, Hill was dean of students at the university.

Hill holds a degree in higher education administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

haywoodChanta M. Haywood was named interim vice president for external affairs at Fort Valley State University in Georgia. She has been serving as vice president for institutional advancement at Albany State University in Georgia.

Dr. Haywood is a graduate of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in American literature from the University of California, San Diego.
