Florida A&M University Crowned Champion of the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge

hcasc-logo-2012Teams from 48 historically Black colleges and universities or predominantly Black institutions participated in the 27th annual Honda Campus All-Star  Challenge. The National Championship was held recently in Torrance, California, with eight teams competing for the title.

Over the past 27 years, 12 HBCUs have emerged as champions of the competition, which uses a quiz-show type format based on the old television show, College Bowl. In both 2012 and 2013, the competition was won by teams from Morgan State University in Baltimore. In 2014, the winning team represented Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. Last year, Prairie View A&M University won the competition.

When the dust settled this year, the winning team taking home the top prize of $75,000 was from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. This was the eighth time Florida A&M University won the title. Florida A&M beat a team from Chicago State University in the finals. Other schools that competed among the final eight teams in the tournament were from Alabama State University, Benedict College, Morehouse College, North Carolina Central University, Oakwood University, and Spelman College.

Since 1989, more than 100,000 students have competed in the competition. More than $7.5 million has been awarded to HBCUs as a result of the competition.
