New Administrative Duties for Seven African Americans in Higher Education

shereeMarloweSheree M. Marlowe is the new campus diversity officer for staff and students at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She was a practicing attorney specializing in civil rights litigation, employment law, and criminal defense.

Marlowe is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where she majored in English. She earned her law degree at Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco.

Holmes, TerrellTerrell Holmes was named interim associate vice president of enrollment management at Delaware State University in Dover. He has served as university registrar since 2008 and joined the staff at the university in 2005.

Holmes is a summa cum laude graduate of Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina. He holds a master’s degree in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.

Ronné Patrick Turner was named vice provost for admissions at Washington University in St. Louis, effective, July 1. Currently, she is associate vice president of enrollment and dean of admission at Northeastern University in Boston. Before joining the staff at Northeastern in 2001, Turner was an admissions officer at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Turner is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She holds a master’s degree in the social foundations of education from the University of Maryland.

nyree-grayNyree Gray was appointed assistant vice president for diversity and inclusion at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California. She is the college’s chief civil rights officer and Title IX coordinator. Before joining the staff at the college in 2014, Gray was dean of diversity affairs and associate professor at the Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles.

Gray is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where she majored in social welfare. She earned her law degree at Southwestern Law School.

GordonDavid Gordon, the inaugural dean of the College of Health Professions at the University of Akron in Ohio, has been given the added duty as special adviser to the president for faculty affairs. Dr. Gordon joined the University of Akron family in 2014 after serving as dean of the School of Health Professions and Studies at the University of Michigan-Flint.

Dr. Gordon is a graduate of Amherst College in Massachusetts, where he majored in chemistry. He earned his medical degree at Harvard University.

2/17/2016 Staff Headshots El Cabrel Lee & David GrubbEl Cabrel Lee was named director of development at Dillard University in New Orleans. Lee has 17 years of executive-level fundraising experience, most recently as statewide coordinator for the Louisiana 2-1-1 community information and referral service.

Lee is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University in Georgia.

Thompson, Dr AltonAlton Thompson was named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He was on sabbatical leave from his position as provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs at Delaware State University.

Dr. Thompson is a graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in rural sociology and demography from Ohio State University.
