University of California, Davis Student Assaulted in Alleged Hate Crime Incident

expanded_logo_gold-blueAn African American student at the University of California, Davis alleges she was assaulted as she walked near her residence at UC Davis West Village. Two men were arrested in what police are calling a hate crime incident. Charges of hate crime, battery, assault, and public intoxication were filed against the two men. Campus police stated that the men threw items at the African American woman and yelled racial slurs.

In a statement, university officials said “acts of bigotry and discrimination have no place in a civilized society and they have no place on our campus. No one should ever be made to feel unsafe or not valued on our campus, and we must all continue to do everything we can as a community to prevent such actions.”

The men arrested in the incident were not affiliated with the university.
