New Administrative Duties for Five Black Scholars at Major Universities

CarlBrownCarl E. Brown Sr. was appointed director of the Washington, D.C. Small Business Development Center Network at Howard University. He is the former supervisory contracting officer for the District of Columbia Office of Contracting and Procurement.

Brown is a graduate of Howard University and holds a master’s degree from the University of Maryland.

stokesClement Stokes is the new director of emergency management and mission continuity at the University of California, Davis. He was the director of emergency management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Stokes is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, where he majored in communications. He holds a master’s degree in threat and response management from the University of Chicago.

Hope Murphy TyehimbaHope Murphy Tyehimba was named chief legal counsel at North Carolina Central University in Durham. For the past five years, she has been assistant university legal counsel.

Tyehimba holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and political science and a juris doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Sexton_eric_hirezEric Sexton was promoted to vice president for student affairs at Wichita State University in Kansas. He has been serving as executive director of athletics at the university.

Dr. Sexton holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wichita State and earned a doctorate the University of Kansas.

Awondo-Sebastian Awondo was named associate researcher  in the Alabama Center for Insurance Information and Research in the College of Commerce at the University of Alabama. He was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Georgia and a research economist at RTI International in North Carolina.

Dr. Awondo is a native of Cameroon. He holds a master’s degree in statistics and a Ph.D. in applied economics from the University of Georgia.
