Three African Americans Named to New Posts at Colleges and Universities

pooleEric Poole was named director of the choir at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He was an assistant professor of music and chair of the department of visual and performing arts at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Dr. Poole is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. He earned a master’s degree in music at Howard University and a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Juliana-StrattonJulianna Stratton was appointed director of the Center for Public Safety and Justice at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She was serving as executive director of the nonprofit agency Cook County Justice for Children.

Stratton is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign and the law school at DePaul University in Chicago.

reedTerri Harris Reed was named secretary of Spelman College in Atlanta. In this role, Dr. Reed will serve as the chief administrative officer for the college’s board of trustees. She has been serving as vice provost for diversity and inclusion at George Washington University. Dr. Reed is the former vice provost for institutional equity and diversity at Princeton University.

Dr. Reed is a graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She holds a master’s degree in education from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in rhetoric and intercultural communication from Howard University in Washington. D.C.
