Five New Administrative Appointments at HBCUs

Dr. LeVon WilsonLeVon E. Wilson was appointed associate provost at Clark Atlanta University in Georgia. He has been serving as a professor of legal studies at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.

Dr. Wilson is a graduate of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, where he majored in business administration. He holds a law degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham and an educational doctorate in adult and community college education from North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

ChrisWithersChristopher Withers is the new director of admissions at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He has eight years of experience in academic recruiting positions.

Withers is a graduate of Saint Augustine’s University, where he majored in organizational management. He earned a master of public administration degree from Strayer University.

DurhamElise Durham was named assistant vice president of communications, media relations, and marketing at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. For the past 14 years, she has served on the media relations staff at Morehouse College in Atlanta.

Durham, who received two Emmy Awards for her work as a television journalist, is a 1991 graduate of Florida A&M University.

Genese-LavalaisGenese Lavalais was promoted to senior woman administration and associate athletics director at Jackson State University in Mississippi. Since October 2014, she has served as the assistant athletics director for academics. Earlier, she was director of academic enhancement at Grambling State University in Louisiana.

Lavalais is a graduate of Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. She holds a master’s degree in sports administration from Grambling State University.

BURGESSMarcus Burgess is the new vice president for university advancement at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens. He was vice president for institutional advancement at Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina.

Burgess is a graduate of Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina, where he served as student body president. He holds a master’s degree in elementary administration and supervision from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
