In Memoriam: Franklin Jerome Anderson, 1954-2015

andersonFranklin J. Anderson, a lecturer in African American studies and director of the Challenger Program at the University of Houston, has died. He was 61 years old.

The Challenger Program is a TRIO program for student support services, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Among the classes taught by Anderson at the University of Houston was “African American Experience Through Theater.”

A veteran of the Broadway stage, television, and film, Anderson was the author of Memoirs of My Days with the Stage Production, The Diary of Black Men: An American Phenomenon (CreateSpace, 2014). He also co-wrote the screenplay for the horror film Street Tale of Terror.

Anderson held a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Houston.

In Memoriam: Roscoe Hightower Jr., 1966-2024

Dr. Hightower was a professor of marketing at his alma mater, historically Black Florida A&M University, where he taught for over two decades. He also served the university as the Centennial Eminent Scholar Chair and Professor of Marketing and Facility Management.
