Universities Appoint Six New Black Administrators

Julian WilliamsJulian R. Williams was named vice president for compliance diversity and ethics at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He has been serving as director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Williams is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the Michigan State University School of Law.

AmoussouGuy-Alain Amoussou is the new associate provost at Bowie State University in Maryland. He was a special assistant to the university’s president and director of university’s Education Innovation Initiative. Earlier in his career, he was a professor of computer science at Humboldt State University in California.

Dr. Amoussou is a graduate of the Universite de Picardie in France and holds a master’s degree from the Universite Paris IX Dauphine. He earned a Ph.D. in industrial systems engineering and computer science from the Universite de Technologie de Compiegne in France.

mikewilliamsMichael Williams is the new director of athletics at the University of California, Berkeley. He has served in the post on an interim basis for the past 10 months. In 2009, he retired as vice chair of capital markets for Barclays Global Investors. Since then he has served on the UC Berkeley Foundation Board of Trustees.

Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles.

eddie-howardEddie J. Howard Jr. was appointed associate vice president for student experience at Youngstown State University in Ohio. He has been serving as vice president for student affairs at Augusta Technical College in Georgia.

Howard is a graduate of Valdosta State University in Georgia. He holds a master’s degree in student personnel in higher education from the University of Georgia.

KISNER-Ricardo1Rick Kisner was named vice president and chief financial officer at Tuskegee University in Alabama. He was senior director of business affairs, process improvement, and information systems at Wayne State University in Detroit.

Kisner also has served as CFO for the Detroit public school systems and as the finance director for the city of Daytona Beach in Florida.

SimmonsObadiah Simmons Jr. was named interim director of athletics at Grambling State University in Louisiana. He has been an administrator at the university for 35 years, most recently serving as director of the department of kinesiology, sport, and leisure studies.

A native of Michigan, Dr. Simmons is a 1974 graduate of Grambling State University. He earned a master’s degree in physical education from the University of North Carolina and a doctoral degree in educational administration from Texas A&M University.

Quenon Endowed Chair, and vice provost for graduate education at Missouri University of Science and Technology.
