In Memoriam: A. Melvin Miller, 1931-2015

Trustee Melvin Miller smA. Melvin Miller who served on the board of trustees of Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina, for nearly 35 years, died earlier this month. He was 83 years old.

Miller served as chair of the board from 2007 to 2008. In 1999, he was interim president of the university.

A native of Savannah, Georgia, Miller earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Saint Augustine’s University. He then earned a law degree at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Miller held several legal posts in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He chaired the Alexandria, Virginia Redevelopment and Housing Authority, the Alexandria City School Board, and the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia.
